2017 Planning Ahead

Although not an enormously indulgent Christmas I think the stink from the dogs bums tonight tells a story that we could all do with a more sensible January.  We need to recover from the routine of overeating, film watching and lolling around, interspersed with sudden and intense bouts of physical exercise (hunting, dog walking, log chopping) before slipping back into a mince pie induced coma.

1st Jan 2017 - Kenfig Sands

New diaries purchased, family organiser is on the kitchen wall... we just have the small matter of Woody being sent away with work for a bit.  I plan not to shuffle round in my pj's for too long while he is away, I might allow myself a day or two but there is lots to do.

While I will leave the big hefty jobs until Woody gets back I hope to crack on with turning Tan into a log moving pony ready for clearing the stacks we will need to process for next winter.  We are well on our way and she has proved to be ready and willing to learn.  It made me realise how much I love working with young horses and I started the search for another young horse to join the family for some fun and eventing.

Meanwhile I can get on with the never ending, rock picking, bramble slashing, weeding and I need to oversee the plans for the stables and barn.  The outline approval agreed Woody found a very experienced local architect who is currently drawing up the plans for the final spec approval.

Santa did bring us one very useful pressy for the land this year, a Wolf Magnetic Sweeper (£40-50 from Amazon), this has proved invaluable and the haul of metal detritus is quite terrifying!  We thoroughly recommend getting one of these for your driveway, garage or yard to avoid punctures and injured hooves and paws.

Over Christmas Woody (my hero) put in a couple of days of serious work whacking in a whole line of fence posts by hand, 25 in total, his poor hands and body were wrecked for days.  This has allowed us to catch up with the fencing plan that we drew up over a year ago.  The delay imposed by the poor weather had given us time to evaluate the plan and see if it would work in theory before putting in any fixtures.

The electric tape and insulators have arrived and I will start creating the next paddocks this weekend, ugh my most favorite thing!

Happy New Year!
